The primary challenge was navigating the splash zone—a turbulent area where waves interact with structures—while handling large-surface-area components. Additionally, the operation was constrained by limited rigging height, necessitating an innovative solution.

Innovative Solution

To address these challenges, Cranemaster deployed the CM3-700T-34500-A unit, boasting a Safe Working Load (SWL) of 700 tons and a stroking range of 4.5 meters. This unit featured an integrated CMAC controller, allowing for real-time configuration adjustments throughout the operation. A bespoke inverted rigging system was engineered to minimize rigging height by positioning the Cranemaster unit lower in the assembly. This design required specialized solutions to ensure side-loads on the piston rod remained within acceptable limits.

Successful Outcome

Developing and certifying the inverted rigging system demanded considerable effort from Cranemaster. Throughout the project's planning and lift analysis phases, Cranemaster worked closely with TechnipFMC to ensure seamless implementation. All lifting operations were executed successfully, with the Cranemaster unit performing as expected at every stage. The inverted rigging system, along with the Lock and Release functionality enabling zero stroke during lift-off, were critical to achieving the desired operability.
